The whole Cadore area is rich in small villages that keep thousand-year old history, art and traditions. Pieve di Cadore, a lively town in the heart of the Belluno Dolomites, looks like something out of a Renaissance painting. It is no coincidence that it gave birth to of one of the greatest Italian artists, Tiziano Vecellio, whose childhood home can be visited. There are also marvellous places such as the Centro Cadore lake, the Roccolo park and the famous cycle path along the old railway.
Calalzo is a lovely town located on the shores of the lake: in a wonderful secluded spot, amid the unspoilt vegetation, it is studded with many small lakes such as Lago delle Tose and its breathtaking waterfalls. Lozzo di Cadore, also known as the town of the mills, and Domegge di Cadore, whose churches of great historic and artistic value are also located by the lake. Finally there are Auronzo and Misurina, the most well-known centers of the Cadore area: their lakes are considered the pride of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site.
